Why Eco-friendly Diapers in the First Place?
Humans have been using diapers for many centuries.
However, this is a product that has undergone radical evolution to get to what it is today, evolving from animal skins, to moss, linen and other materials.
Disposable diapers evolved from prefold cloth diapers and since their introduction, they have been flying off the shelves for one notable reason: they are extremely convenient.
But this convenience has also brought with it another problem. You see, regular diapers do not decompose easily, taking about 500 years to break down.
Given the average baby uses up between 2,500 and 3,000 diapers in the first year alone, that’s a whopping ton of waste heading to the landfills each year.
Enter eco-friendly diapers.
Just like normal disposable diapers, eco-friendly diapers do not come with the hassle of washing and folding.
More than that, they are kind to the environment and break down easily when disposed unlike traditional diapers which contain plastic and petroleum constituents.
Another reason that should get you excited about disposable diapers is that also unlike their traditional alternatives, biodegradable disposables are kind to your baby’s tender skin and do not cause allergies and other skin sensitivity issues.
That is because they are largely made from plant materials.
But it’s good to highlight the fact that as with all other products, disposable diapers are not created equal.
Ideally, what you should be looking for when choosing the best eco-friendly diapers is first and foremost, the quality.
It is also important that the product be super-absorbent, is able to handle blowouts nicely, and of course, it should be a good fit; also ideally pocket-friendly.
Best Eco Friendly Diapers Reviewed
Bambo Nature Eco Friendly Diapers
- Our classic, eco Friendly diaper Design
Bambo Nature Diapers are considered by many the best eco-friendly diapers around, and it is easy to see why.
Made for babies with sensitive skin, they were granted the Nordic Eco Swan Label which signifies the product is 100% free of any substances considered harmful to both humans and the environment.
As well, they have been certified free of every known allergen in addition to dangerous chemicals.
Little wonder the product was named the top eco-friendly diaper in the market following extensive testing and reviews by BabyGearLab.
These diapers are made of wheat starch and are ultra-soft. They are super absorbent and have a rich back sheet.
That’s in addition to a three-layer design that makes them great in terms of absorbency and maintaining dryness, ensuring your baby stays clean for longer and comfortable with the diaper on.
Thin and breathable, the Bambo Nature Eco-Friendly Diapers are devoid of any perfumes and chemicals, additives which are known to spur allergies and rashes on sensitive skin.
At $0.40 per count, the price is a little higher juxtaposed against other top products in the sustainable category. But the safety benefits to infants and environmental benefits may well negate the cost.

Naty by Nature Eco-Friendly Disposable Diapers
Eco by Naty is a Swedish company that has made a name for itself as a maker of good quality eco-friendly diapers that offer the best combination of absorbency, fit and eco-friendliness.
Over the years, they have given us a slew of award-winning diapers made with natural biodegradable materials and free of harmful chemicals – all in line with their creed to improve the world one product at a time.
For this particular one, Eco by Naty sought to come up with a diaper created from a GM-free (non-genetically modified) corn-based material, a product that would be kind to the environment.
While the material makes the diapers naturally biodegradable, the organic corn-based layer also results in more naturally breathable diapers, something we don’t often get with traditional diapers.
In addition to keeping skin irritations like rash and eczema at bay, this breathable fabric also helps to naturally keep bacteria out of the diaper.
Naty by Nature disposable diapers do not harbor any chemicals. They are fragrance-free and 100% devoid of chlorine and other chemical agents.
They may feel a bit stiff (no different from most natural diapers) but they fit great.
At around $0.27 per count at the time of posting, you will be hard pressed to find better value for money out there.
Sizes are available for newborns all the way up to Size 6.

Next up on our list of best eco-friendly diapers is a product courtesy of Earth’s Best, an American-based company under the Hain Celestial Group that primarily focuses on organic baby foods.
They are pretty good at their stuff, and their foray into the diaper market has not gone unnoticed by conscious moms.
The one aspect in which Earth’s Best Tendercare Disposable Diapers trump the two aforementioned bestsellers is that they are perfect for heavy wetters and overnight use.
They have a good around-the-leg fit across the sizes, making them a comfortable wear – which is good especially bearing in mind this makes for a perfect overnight diaper. As one Size 6 customer notes, the product is able to hold up for a good 14 hours.
The Tendercare Baby Diapers from Earth’s Best do not contain any chlorine, fragrance, dyes and latex, so baby skin irritation issues are nothing to worry about with this diaper.
What’s more, the absorbent core material is all natural. It is made from corn and wheat starch, making this a very friendly product to sensitive baby skin as well as Mother Earth.
On the downside, while the legs fits nicely, one Amazon customer complained about sizing issues around the waste area. It doesn’t seem to be a prevalent issue, though.
As well, you might be wise to place your Amazon order of Earth’s Best Tendercare Disposable Diapers in advance as they are not readily available in local stores.
This is one of the most affordable eco-friendly baby diapers. Prices start at $0.16/count for the Size 1 fit which carries 144 pieces, with Size 6 (72 counts) being the most expensive at $0.46/count.

Andy Pandy Biodegradable Bamboo Diapers
A list of the best eco-friendly diapers would not be complete without a mention of this very unique product from Andy Pandy.
This is a family-run business based in Michigan that was started by the need of the founder to create a diaper that was both safe not just for their children but others as well, not to mention the environment.
And as with most small businesses worth their salt, Andy Pandy has gone on to surpass customer expectations and grown to be one of the most highly rated disposable diaper brands on Amazon.
And for good reason.
These eco-friendly diapers are largely made from bamboo fiber, the result of which is a product that is both antibacterial and hypoallergenic.
While many eco-friendly diapers have been faulted for being a bit stiff, the Biodegradable Bamboo Diapers from Andy Pandy are soft (and comfy). The liner is infused with aloe to curb itching while promoting skin hydration at the same time.
As this product was intended to be gentle on your baby’s skin and the environment, it does not carry any harmful chemicals in the form of preservatives, chlorine, PVC or phthalates; alcohol even.
It is as natural as natural gets.
It is therefore not surprising to see that Andy Pandy Biodegradable Bamboo Diapers are the most expensive on product here. The Newborn Pack (of 50) starts at $0.50 at the time of posting. The Small size is the cheapest in the stable at $0.40 a count (94 pieces).
But not only will you be getting good value for your money, but you can also be content in the knowledge that part of the proceeds from your purchase go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in support of children with cancer and other serious illnesses.
